The 2014 Oscars were a triumph for black film as 12 Years a Slave took home the top award Best Picture, Lupita Nyong’o walked away with best supporting actress in her very first film role and John Ridley won best adapted screenplay.

We shouldn’t forget Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Oscar nomination for best actor, it is  still a great achievement and although the $168m box office smash The Butler was not recognised at the Oscars it is worthy of a mention here as another film that made us all proud in 2013 .

We are certainly looking forward to more of the same in 2014!
